Have you guys heard of the Counting Game?
If you have troubles with recall, then it's for sure a game you should know about!
The Counting Game is super easy and aims to build value for the dog on proximity to you.
Fill a tub of treats
Go into your garden (or lounge if its soggy outside!)
Stand in one spot, bend to the floor and very OBVIOUSLY place a treat on the ground by your feet as you say THREE!
Repeat 10-15 times (Yes, there are free for your dog - you're reward charging the word)
Move to another spot, turn to the side so that you're not facing your dog, and say THREE as you place a treat down
Move again and repeat 5 or 6 times
Now let's start counting...
As you move off, start from ONE and count up slowly, placing a treat on the floor with every number, and using a ridiculously obvious arm movement that says - I'm putting a treat on the ground over here
When your dog arrives, keep going and add a couple of extra numbers and treats to add value to staying, not scarpering
Repeat 5 times and stop for the day
Putting it into Practice...
Week 1: At home and in the Garden
Week 2: In a quiet space on a long lead
Week 3: In a space with some distractions, on lead
Week 4: If you feel there's consistency and love for the game in a safe space, drop that lead
Thank you to Chirag Patel for his life-changing yet simple game!
